Parent-Teacher Association

P.S. 213, The New Lots School prides itself on a dynamic Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) powered by a strong connection between our hard-working and creative parent community and our dedicated staff members. Every public school is obliged by the Department of Education (DOE) to have a Parent Association or Parent-Teacher Association. The PTA is one of many vehicles available for parents and families to become involved in their children’s learning, share ideas, and enrich their school communities. As a leaning institution, we hold sacred to the principles that PS 213 must provide opportunities and training for all parents to participate in school governance and decision-making, must encourage parent participation on all levels, and we must value all voices.

The PTA’s mission is to:

  1. Develop a cooperative working relationship between the parents and staff at our school.

  2. Raise money to supplement PS 213’s budget allocations.

  3. Build a vibrant and welcoming community both within P.S. 213 and with the greater neighborhood community.

  4. Facilitate a productive relationship and two-way communication between families, school administration, school staff, and community officials.

  5. Increase parent leadership and building capacity for greater involvement.

  6. Raise funds to provide a wide variety of educational and cultural programs and materials to support school initiatives for the students of P.S. 213.

DONATE. VOLUNTEER. PARTICIPATE.

Family involvement is more important now than previously considered. Consider attending PTA meetings, being a class parent, volunteering to help with events, helping to raise and contribute money, or volunteering your skills and talents within a committee. Every parent or legal guardian of a student at PS 213 is automatically a member of the PTA, and each parent is allowed one vote at meetings.

Let your voice be heard!
